# Run Manager Check-ins and Feedback

Status: draft · v0.1.0 · Performance and Development System
draft reference — not a fitted standard

Run a recurring operating conversation that connects current outcomes, evidence, obstacles, feedback, support, decisions, and learning.

## Purpose
Help manager and role holder steer the work while action is still useful, instead of reconstructing performance at a distant review.

## Steps
1. Prepare from current evidence — Focus the conversation on material work and decisions.
2. Understand the state of the work — Build a shared view before evaluating or solving.
3. Exchange specific feedback — Make useful information available in both directions.
4. Decide actions and support — Convert insight into owned operating change.
5. Control changes and specialist routing — Keep the check-in from silently becoming another decision process.
6. Record proportionately and follow through — Preserve continuity and accountability without turning dialogue into surveillance.
7. Review patterns and improve — Use accumulated conversations to improve work, management, and connected processes.

## Connections
- upstream: Align Role Outcomes and Expectations (/processes/align-role-outcomes) — trigger: The agreement is published or updated.
- downstream: Align Role Outcomes and Expectations (/processes/align-role-outcomes) — trigger: A material expectation or context change is identified.
- downstream: Review Performance and Contribution (/processes/review-performance-and-contribution) — trigger: The authorized formal review point occurs.

## Measures
- Check-in steering value: Structured participant and action review supported by examples of decisions and resolved obstacles; not satisfaction alone.
- Decision and commitment closure: Material agenda items with complete disposition divided by all material agenda items.
- Obstacle response time: Elapsed time from recorded material obstacle to accepted disposition, by type and owner.
- Useful cadence adoption: Completed applicable check-ins meeting minimum usefulness controls divided by scheduled applicable check-ins.
- Check-in exception and handoff pattern: Controlled handoffs by type, source, receiving process, urgency, recurrence, and closure.
- Trust, privacy, workload, and surprise guardrail: Qualified review of participation, corrections, feedback, workload, access, escalation, and formal-decision evidence; not a clinical or legal conclusion.
